Paul Sheehan
Paul Sheehan is very much looking forward to singing in Exeter Cathedral again, twenty seven years after he first sung there as a Choral Scholar and then Lay Vicar in the Cathedral Choir, whilst studying for a music degree at Exeter University. He is also looking forward to renewing his acquaintance with Exmouth Choral Society with whom he last sang the baritone solo in Brahms German Requiem twelve years ago.
Paul appears by kind permission of English National Opera where he is a member of the chorus and where he also created the role of Shepherd in the world premier of Julian Anderson’s Thebans. In addition for ENO he has sung such pivotal roles as Messenger (la Traviata), Policeman (la bohème), Servant (Lulu), Helmsman (Tristan and Isolde), Army Surgeon (The Force of Destiny), Porter (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk) and Foreman (Trial by Jury)! Next spring he will sing Antonio in Fiona Shaw's production of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro for the company. Elsewhere, roles include Ceprano (Rigoletto) for Grange Park Opera, Peter (Bach St Matthew Passion) for Glyndebourne, Don Alfonso (Così fan Tutte) for Glyndebourne on Tour, Escamillo (Carmen) for New Devon Opera, The Father (Hansel & Gretel), Sid (Albert Herring), Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro), Ko-Ko (The Mikado) and even Henry Higgins (My Fair Lady)! His oratorio engagements range from Bach's B Minor Mass and Handel's Messiah through Haydn's The Creation, Mendelssohn's St Paul, Verdi's Requiem, Elgar's Dream of Gerontius and Walton's Belshazzar's Feast to Tippett’s A Child of Our Time. Following his formative training in Exeter, Paul went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and is currently taught by Robert Dean. |
